The Bus to Sarlahi: How I Found Together for Nepal
It began with a small ad in a local newspaper. *Together for Nepal* had placed a call for someone to help them with fundraising, and something about it immediately caught my attention. I reached out, curious to learn more. After meeting with the team, I was invited to join them on an eight-hour bus ride to a rural district called Sarlahi, near the Indian border, one of the areas where their projects were focused.
That trip changed everything.
In Sarlahi, I saw poverty in its rawest form. Children walked barefoot on dry, dusty roads. Many didn’t have shoes, clean clothes, or proper food. Some had never seen a classroom. It was heartbreaking, children starting life with no resources, no safety net, and very little hope for a better future. I couldn’t walk away from that. So I stayed.
I extended my time in Nepal, renewed my visa, and began supporting Together for Nepal directly. I joined their team, helping to expand their work in the region. I organized a fundraiser event that turned out to be a success, we raised money, collected clothing, shoes, and school supplies for the children of Sarlahi. The community support was inspiring. But I didn’t stop there.
Since then, I’ve continued to support Together for Nepal with new projects—helping build toilets, install clean water wells, and bring basic hygiene and dignity to families who have lived without these essentials for far too long.
What started with a newspaper ad became a mission I now carry forward with heart and purpose, because every child, no matter where they’re born, deserves a real chance.
