Charity Day of Caring
Day of Caring – Charity and Community Impact Initiative
Day of Caring was a grassroots charity initiative founded by George Kanis, a seasoned social impact leader with over 25 years of experience in community development, education, and fundraising. Based in the Netherlands, Day of Caring was created to bring together generations through meaningful community programs, school collaborations, and inclusive outreach projects.
At it's core, Day of Caring organized school and community programs at elderly homes, where children and youth engaged in creative, social, and educational activities with senior citizens. These intergenerational encounters promoted empathy, understanding, and joy, enriching the lives of both the young and the elderly.
George led the initiative not only as a program developer and manager but also as it's primary fundraiser. Through independent fundraising campaigns, including local events, school-based collections, and community sponsorships, Day of Caring secured the resources needed to run these heart-driven programs.
Key Highlights:
Served thousands of children and elderly individuals through weekly and seasonal programs.
Designed engaging formats combining education, creativity, cooking, and storytelling to build lasting social bonds.
Personally oversaw fundraising operations, ensuring projects remained sustainable and community-led.
Collaborated with local schools, NGOs, and care homes to maximize outreach and ensure inclusivity.
Part of a broader portfolio of impactful initiatives led by George Kanis, including financial literacy education, refugee support, and the Multi Culti Cooking Projects.
Day of Caring exemplifies George's lifelong dedication to creating real, tangible change—especially for society's most vulnerable members.
Unfortunately, like many small-scale community initiatives, Day of Caring was significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to strict health regulations and the closure of care facilities to external visitors, the charity was forced to pause its operations and eventually shut down. Despite this, the legacy and impact of the initiative continue to live on in the lives it touched and the communities it brought together.
